Politicizing a Punk Scene

Politics is really important to the scene. Not just in people saying,
"Fuck the Government!" but with people making personal choices like
veganism/vegetarianism, or boycotting McDonalds. This is what is truly
revolutionary. If every person makes a change, our dream would not be far off.
"How can you change the world if you cannot change yourself?" - Filth
I live in small town Sarnia, ON, Canada, and I am trying desperately to expose
people to self-liberation and to this great music. Unfortuneately, most
"punks" here are those who believe it to be a fashion. Fuck that. No
matter how cool your hair looks, or how many studs you have in your leather
jacket, it means nothing. What matters is what you put into the scene and
yourself. Punk is not just about the freedom to look different (Marylin Manson's
got that covered). It's about change and even if we never achieve revolution, we
can have our own personal ones and be ready for when we must revolve as a
society. That's all I can say. I'm just pissed cause some nerd in my scene said
to someone I know, "You know what Stu's problem is? He preaches too
much." I guess he'll have to get used to it because I will fight to educate
my peers and I will not let my scene become a fashion joke or an alcoholic mass.
Fight the enemy within.
